If you're thinking of booking your wedding ceremony or partnership registration at the Hoofddorp City Hall (Beukenhorst), you’ve likely seen the building. It’s a modern office block in a row of office buildings. From the street, it doesn't necessarily scream “dream wedding venue." But I always tell my clients that no matter which town hall you choose in the Netherlands, the official ceremony rooms are always styled to feel special. Hoofddorp is no exception—it’s clean, quiet, and intimate.

As a photographer who lives in Hoofddorp and someone who has photographed there before, I wanted to share my experience, since there was almost no images of the interior online when I first researched the location.

The Interior: Minimalism Meets Classic Elegance

While the outside is corporate and functional, the interior is clean and bright. This is actually a huge advantage for photography because there are no clashing colors or dark, heavy wood to suck up all the light.

The Ceremony Room is designed with a "modern meets classic" feel – with elegant, traditional striped chairs and carved wooden tables contrasted against modern, organic branch-style chandeliers and neutral walls. The room is wrapped in large windows with sheer white curtains. This creates a soft light effect which is very flattering for portraits.

The Atrium Staircase: An Editorial Moment

Because the area around the building is quite bare, couples often worry about where to take their portraits. The best spot is actually right in the lobby.

A couple in formal attire sits together on outdoor stone steps sharing a romantic moment.

There is a wide, light-wood staircase with glass railings situated directly under a massive atrium skylight. Even on a rainy day, this spot is flooded with soft, overhead light. It’s perfect for a few chic, editorial-style shots of you as a couple before you head off to your reception.

Why I Like Working Here

Besides the fact that I live close, one of the things I like most about Gemeente Haarlemmermeer - Beukenhorst is that it’s much more unhurried than the busy city halls in Amsterdam or Rotterdam, where you are often quickly ushered out. Because it’s a smaller, local hub, it is a lot more relaxed, allowing us to take our time for photos.
