The Heart Behind the Lens

Cinematic Wedding, Love & Maternity Stories in Amsterdam

Hi, I’m Boryana Mileva, the soul behind Avelim (my last name, reversed). Based in Hoofddorp and serving Amsterdam and the greater Netherlands, I am a story-driven photographer drawn to softness, honesty, and the quiet magic of connection.

I’ve been behind the lens since 2009, guided by the same instincts that drives me today: creative curiosity and a desire to preserve the kind of images you can feel.

We will be a great match if:

  • You love natural light and outdoor locations
  • You want photos that feel emotional and timeless
  • You care about atmosphere and story more than the “perfect pose”

We might not be a good fit if:

  • You’re looking for a polished, staged studio look
  • You prefer heavily airbrushed or retouched images
  • You just want a quick set of photos without the story or connection behind them.

Newlyweds share romantic moments near an ornate stone fountain in front of a brick building after Gorinchem city hall wedding.

I find inspiration in light, nature, nostalgia, and the quiet magic woven into everyday moments. I believe that sometimes, all we need is the right pause to catch it.

Embracing the Present, Honoring the Past

While I don't compromise with the digital gear I use for work, vintage lenses and film photography have been a big creative interest of mine in recent years. I carry a film camera in my pocket often and I sometimes shoot with lenses adapted for modern cameras or modern replicas such as the New Petzval 55mm.

When film is involved, I quite like using Kodak Gold and Kodak Portra, as I find the color chemistry is close to how I edit my digital photos. Although I currently don't have film integrated in my packages, it is something I'm experimenting with and might one day include. You know I'm comfortable with a client when I take out my vintage camera, when the pacing allows it, of course.

For me, imperfection is character.
