As a wedding photographer in the Netherlands, I am always captivated by the historic charm of regional towns, and Carolina and Victor’s celebration is a beautiful testament to that. Their civil wedding in Gorinchem was a deeply personal affair, centered around their ten-year journey and their son. Every moment, from their ceremony at the city hall to their reception stops at Sweet Ima and De Gasterie, felt like a curated love letter to the city itself.

Carolina & Victor - A Decade in the Making

Some couples don't need a wedding to prove anything. After ten years together, a life built side by side, a child raised between them — Carolina and Victor already knew exactly what they were choosing when they finally chose it officially. That's what made this day feel different. Not like a beginning, but like a declaration of everything that already was.

It started the way good days do — unhurried. Getting ready at home, details laid out, a small boy learning to carry rings with the seriousness only children can bring to a task that matters. He was the most beautiful thing they had made together, and there he was, walking their love story forward one careful step at a time.

The civil ceremony was at the gemeente in Gorinchem. They signed, they held hands, they looked at each other the way people do when the words have finally caught up with the feeling. The vows were emotional. Of course they were. When you've already kept your promises for ten years before you make them out loud, the words carry a different kind of weight. They promised to stay by each other's side — not as a hope, but as a certainty they'd already earned.

Outside, Gorinchem gave them everything. Cobblestone streets, a fountain square, that particular September light — still warm, still generous, but with just enough of a turn in it to make everything feel golden and a little tender. The ivy on the buildings had just started to shift color. The city felt like it was quietly celebrating with them.

Cake at Sweet Ima's. Dinner at De Gasterie. Sparklers in the dark.

A full day for a love that had been full for a long time already.
